Whoa!!! It's almost 2 months since the last time I posted here. I know you really missed Ellen, don't you? hehehe... Well, I was out of the limelight simply because I was too busy in my new job. Seeking for a greener pasture as you may call it. Luckily, I got a new job which for me is a start of my new career. But don't you worry guys, even how busy my work schedule is I will still find time posting new articles for Ellen. Thank you guys for always visiting Ellen, I really appreciate your blogwalking. Ten Years Later
I'm not gonna sit here and act like I remember where I was and what I was doing during the 9/11 attacks on the United States. However, I'm pretty sure I was in school, and I bet I thought it was simply another day. I bet the teachers knew. My parents knew too, but I don't even remember when I became aware of the attacks. Talk about sheltered from reality!
I do remember being in New York City a week before this whole incident.
Now, exactly a decade later, people around America are remembering September 11th all over again. Time flies so fast.
Yesterday, I sang in a program that was a part of some sort of national movement of remembering September 11th. The No Place Like America Foundation (werestillhere.org) honored all sorts of heroes. From firefighter to policemen to those who are or were in the military.
I simply wanted to give my own little tribute to those who died that day. Whether you were simply working in the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, or riding on the plane; or whether you were just walking in New York City, or part of the FDNY or NYPD that tried to save lives, I commend you. I salute you.
I can't possible imagine how the families of the victims felt...yet alone how they feel now. To have a loved one's life snatched away without any sort of warning must be one of the worst feelings in the world. My heart aches for those families and friends daily.
I'd also like to recognize the people who saved other people during that day and lived.
I really can't talk about this for too long. The whole subject makes me entirely too depressed. I simply want you to think about the victims of 9/11 along with their families and friends. Pray for them because I'm sure this is a difficult time.

Hey, readers! I've come up with another type of post that I'll be putting up here every once and a while.
The title will be "Beautiful People. Beautiful Things." These posts will be simple. I'll have photographs of beautiful people and beautiful things. They will mainly be photos that inspire me, make me laugh...or think. They will pretty much be photos that I like. When I'm Not Listening to Hip-Hop, Neo-Soul, and R&B...
It is no secret that Iam a lover of hip-hop, a neo-soul junkie, and an old school R&B fiend (Ibelieve that basically every song I have ever posted on this blog belongs toone of those three genres). While there is nothing wrong with loving certaintypes of music more than others, one has to be open to hearing and appreciatingother types of music as well. I’m not going to lie, I am extremely, extremely picky about the music I listento, my friends & sisters can attest to that. However, for the past year orso I have been making a concerted effort to open myself up to the variouswonders that the music world has to offer. In doing so, I have fallen in lovewith a host of different musicians from several genres and have decided toshare a few of these finds with you all. Enjoy the music and tell me what you think!

ALONG KANDY LAKE
A drawing done from a photograph taken in Sri Lanka. When traveling I always take many photographs that might be used later as reference material for drawings or paintings.
BANANA GIRL, BESAKIH MARKET, BALI
I used Primacolor pencils for all of these drawings. This one was rendered on a smooth surfaced bristol board.

Another drawing done from a photograph of a young woman that was our maid when we lived in Paris. I used colored pencils as well as oil crayons on this drawing.

Various pencil techniques
Here are some more drawings from my book DRAWING IN PENCIL. These show various techniques that can be employed when doing pencil drawings on various papers.
A portrait done with pencil strokes without any rubbing or blending with a paper stump.
Colored pencils, oil crayons, water and turpentine were used in this example. The water dissolved some of the water soluble pencil lines and oil crayons were blended with a rag dampened with turpentine. It's very interesting to mix mediums this way, you can achieve some exciting results.
An example of a pencil drawing done on a colored paper. I used a medium shade gray paper, drawing with gray and black pencils, adding just a few color accents. An effective technique using few colors.
Another mixed media example, using colored pencils and oil crayons on colored paper. I blended some of the tones with Bestine. You can also use pencil with other mediums such as watercolors or acrylics.

Drawing with pencils
I enjoy experimenting with various art mediums. It gives one a new outlook when moving from one medium to a completely different one. After working with the ink medium for many years I began to work with pencils which eventually became a book titled DRAWING IN PENCIL.
A black and white drawing of MISTY done with a wax pencil, a quick, bold sketch.
A much tigher sketch of Mont St. Michel done in color on a textured paper. There are many interesting papers to utilize for pencil drawings.
This drawing was done using a photograph for reference. It was drawn on a sheet of regular surfaced bristol board. I blended some of the tones using a paper stump dampened with bestine. You can see that very tight renderings can be accomplished with colored pencils.
This drawing of Lucky was also done on a regular surfaced bristol board. Here I used simple, flat washes of color and drew with colored pencil over them.
These drawings are from a book published by Dover which is a reprint of two of my previous books, Drawing in Pencil and Drawing in Ink. It is available at most book stores including Amazon.com.
